KCU105 Getting Started

Table of Contents

Introduction

This KCU105 page is intended to help guide you through the building blocks to take you from opening the box to expert design on the KCU105 Evaluation Kit.

Step 1: Learn --> Getting Familiar with the Kit

  • Kit Overview --> For an overview of the KCU105 kit contents, features and supporting material, visit the KCU105 product page.

  • Board Capabilities --> UG917 the KCU105 Board User Guide is the most popular document for understanding how the board works. Find it on the documentation tab of the product page

  • Tutorials --> Also check out the video tutorials on things like how to set your clocks, monitor power, etc (coming soon!)

Step 2: Evaluate --> Bringing up the Basic Design Examples

Next you'll want to check out the example designs for MIG, PCI PIO, IBERT and other key board features on the Documentation and Designs tab of the product page.
These designs are tutorials which will help you build your first simple designs for the board which you will later leverage in the more advanced portions of your prototyping. These designs generally take you less than 30 min to get acquainted with each give or take depending on how much time you want to spend learning the subject matter.

Step 3: Design --> Designing with Targeted Reference Designs

TRDs are designed to help you understand how to hook together multiple pieces of commonly used IP that you'll probably be using in your end system. By using these designs that Xilinx has pre-built and verified for you, these designs will help accelerate you through prototyping phase and can be modified or deployed as-is as part of your end design. For the KCU105 there are four TRDs; 3 for PCI Express and 1 Ethernet based TRD.
Targeted reference designs (TRDs) can also be found on the Documentation and Designs tab of the product page.
